Mango Berry Açaí Bowl

Oh açaí, how I love thee.

Over the past few years, I’ve heard a bit of buzz surrounding the açaí berry and it’s mystical health powers but never had the opportunity to try it. I’m definitely not one to follow trends, especially healthy trends that promise unreasonable benefits or results… BUT, after trying an açaí bowl for the first time a few months ago, I have to say that the açaí hype is completely legitimate.

Açaí bowls are becoming more and more popular, but in my opinion, they’re too pricey at local juice or vegan shops. So, I decided to experiment at home and try to whip them up myself. And what’s great is that you can find all of the ingredients at your favorite grocery store; no need to splurge on all organics at Whole Foods. My local HEB carries the açaí berry puree as well as this amazingly delicious gluten-free granola that my boyfriend and I are obsessed with. It goes great on top of the açaí bowls or works as a small pre-workout snack when carb cravings kick in.

If you haven’t already jumped on the açaí train, try out this easy semi-homemade recipe in your own kitchen and I promise, you’ll be addicted in no time. Feel free to tweak the recipe and substitute or add fruit to your liking. The wonderful thing about these bowls is that you can experiment with the ingredients and toppings, so have fun with it!
